\nThe quote above is referring to the Feeding America, a nonprofit that supplies food pantries. In the article the spokesman states that he learned that more than on-third of the people that they serve come from working households. As gas prices, heating costs, electricity etc. continue to rise I am concerned about the cost of public education. Companies are claiming record profit rates while the cost of living dramatically increases and wages do not. Companies are taking their corporate headquarters abroad for tax loophole benefits. Ultimately these decisions impact public education because they are not paying into the system. The outcome is that federal programs are not fully funded but mandated and still need to be implemented.

When I ask her if she is happy with the one location, she is not. In fact she is frustrated beyond belief some days. But because she only has her high school diploma and not a recognized degree, she is limited in the kinds of jobs she is qualified for and those that have reasonable benefits - so she can go to the dentist and the eye doctor without forking over an entire paycheck. \nThe word "handouts" hurts my heart. Edick is working as hard as she can and sacrificing for her family. I wish that she could see that receiving help for her family is not "resorting to handouts." Reading this quote upset me for personal reasons. I had a dear friend whose family went through a terrible financial crisis and her family desperately needed help with food and medical, but her husband would not accept "handouts." We all need help at different times in our lives.
